The Flat Broke Blues Band is taking some "U.P. BLUES Power" downstate.
Marquette, Michigan's Flat Broke Blues Band is headed downstate to compete in the 2007 International Blues Competition this weekend. The band will be competing against 9 other bands from around Michigan on Sunday, September 16th at the the Odawa Casino in Petoskey, MI. The winner of this round will win 1000 dollars cash and will move on to the finals in Memphis, Tennesee.
All of the other bands in the competition are from Lower Michigan and Flat Broke is hoping that some good old fashioned "U.P. Power" will work in their benefit.
Guitarist/Singer Walt Lindala says, "We entered this competition a few years ago and came in second place by less than one point. We're hoping that this time around things will go better." Lindala adds, "Although it would be great to win the competition, we are more interested in taking part and showcasing the talents of our band. We want to show the folks that Yoopers can play the blues too!"
Each band in the competition will have 30 minutes to perform a set and will be scored by a panel of judges in a series of categories, including originality and blues content. The competition is being hosted by the Mid-North Michigan Blues Society and will be webcast live on the society's website at www.mnmbs.org . The competition begins at 2-pm eastern time this Sunday.
