The Flat Broke Blues Band returns to Ontonagon later this month to perform at the Ontonagon Theater of Performing Arts. The band was last featured at the theater in 2006 and played to rave reviews. The show is scheduled for Friday, March 28th 2008 at 7:00pm.
In a review of the band's last performance at the Theater in 2006, local writer Harold Riter described the band as a "TIGHT group that really cooks! This band is worth a drive to hear and see!"
The Flat Broke Blues Band has been playing clubs, festivals and concerts around the Upper Great Lakes region since 1991. Over the years, the has band has weathered several lineup changes, but has been anchored through it all by founding members guitarist/vocalist Walt Lindala and bassist/vocalist Mark Johnson. Flat Broke's current lineup has been steady for over six years and is considered it's strongest ever. Currently, the band also includes guitarist/vocalist Mike Letts, drummer Jim Cohen and lead vocalist/harmonica player Lorrie Hayes.
Lindala says, "The Ontonagon Theater is a very special place for us to play. Our last time there was an absolute blast and we're looking forward to bringing our updated show back to the folks that come to the show. They were so supportive the last time around, that we can't wait to get back."
Flat Broke Blues Band plays real blues with a passion. If you're looking for some cowboy hat wearing, guitar slinging Stevie Ray "Wannabee" types, this isn't your band. But if a mix of '40's style jump blues, driving electric Chicago blues, a bit of R&B and a touch of classic rock rings your bell, then Flat Broke is the band for you. Over the years, Flat Broke Blues Band has shared the stage with several blues stars including Koko Taylor, Tab Benoit, Shemekia Copeland, Magic Slim, Sean Costello, Anthony Gomes, Billy Branch and Lonnie Brooks to name just a few.
The band is continuing to tour in support of their latest CD entitled "Worth the Weight" which features a total of 12 tracks, including 10 Flat Broke original songs. The band is also in the early stages of pre-production of a new studio recording and is currently working on writing and recording demos of new songs.
